Bataan enforces speed limits within its highways

CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – To ensure the safety of both motorists and the general public traversing the entire stretch of the Bataan highways that include: Pablo Roman Highway, Gov. J.J. Linao Road, and the Bataan section of the Jose Abad Santos Avenue (formerly Gapan-Olongapo Road) in Hermosa and Dinalupihan; the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of this province, in its special session held last December 9, 2016 approved Ordinance No. 4 series of 2016, providing for the speed limits for all kinds of motor vehicles within the Bataan highways and providing the penalties for violation thereof.

Under said Ordinance, the rate of speed for all types of motor vehicles shall not exceed the maximum allowable speed nor go below the allowed minimum speed:

1.    Passenger automobiles (jeepneys, buses, UV express, taxis and other similar vehicles) Maximum – 70km/hr; Minimum – 40km/hr

2.    Private automobiles (cars, SUVs, AUVs, and other similar vehicles)

Maximum – 80km/hr; Minimum – 60km/hr

3.    Trucks (tankers, dump and cargo trucks, trailers, closed vans, transit mixers and other similar vehicles) whether loaded or not

Maximum – 50km/hr; Minimum – 30km/hr

4.    Motorcycles – Maximum – 60km/hr; Minimum – 40km/hr

5.    Slow moving vehicles should AT ALL TIMES use and stay at the rightmost section of the highway.

Violators of this Ordinance shall, if warranted, be subjected to the following sanctions:

            First offense – Reprimand and traffic seminar with the MBDA

            Second offense – Fine of Php 2,500.00 and traffic seminar with the MBDA

            Third offense and succeeding offenses– Fine of Php 5,000.00 and/or imprisonment not

exceeding one (1) year upon discretion of the Court.

The Metro Bataan Development Authority (MBDA) as deputized shall implement said Ordinance and authorized to perform the following:

1.     Confiscate the driver’s license of the violator and issue a citation ticket stating the violations therein

2.    Conduct traffic seminars for the violators of this Ordinance
