Bataan hosts 2019 NSTW-Central Luzon

The inclement weather prevailing in the province did not impede the opening of the 3-day 2019 Regional National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) celebration at the Vista Mall Activity Center, Balanga City this morning, July 30.
Anchored on the theme, “Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for Sustainable Development”, this year’s celebration serves two purposes: to showcase Filipino ingenuity, innovation and science and technology developments; and to serve as a platform for promoting science and technology as a key driver of economic development; featuring interactive science and technology exhibits, techno-fora, film showing and other events to provide the viewing public with updates on the latest developments in the local science and technology community.

In attendance were Balanga City Mayor Francis Garcia who warmly welcomed the guests; DOST Secretary Hon. Fortunato dela Peña; DOST Undersecretary for Research and Development, Hon. Rowena Cristina Guevarra; DOST Regional Director III Dr. Julius Caesar Sicat; DOST-Bataan Director Ms. Rosalie Ona, Bataan Vice-Governor Ma. Cristina Garcia who read the keynote message of Sen. Cynthia Villar; representatives of national government agencies, the academe, LGUs, members of the local media and other stakeholders. Musical numbers were rendered by the multiawarded BPSU Singers and the Rondalla Romano of Pablo Roman National High School.

After the ribbon cutting which formally opened the S&T Exhibits and Techno-Bazaar, a media conference ensued; after which a film showing and techno-fora will be held where topical issues such as preparation for the Big One; Saving Lives, Building Resilience; Food Safety; preparations for the 2019 SEA Games; Energy Systems preparation; 3D Printing among others will be discussed by experts from DOST, PHIVOLCS, SWAN Project, DUCK Project, PDRRMO, FDA and other agencies.
It would be worth noting that the last regional NSTW celebration held here in Bataan was in 1999, hence the Bataeños are very happy and grateful to the Department of Science and Technology for once again bringing this event here.
Awarding ceremonies will be held on the 3rd day also at Vista Mall.
