Bataan residents welcome the operation of P500 M water facility

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Residents of the northern Bataan town of Morong are expected to benefit from the establishment of a P500 million water treatment facility within three years inside the huge Bataan Technology Park (BTP).

Governor Albert Raymond S. Garcia said the entry of a new locator at the Morong Special Economic Zone (MSEZ), which is the 365-hectare ecozone, the former Philippine Refugee and Processing Center (PRPC), reflects the potential sound business advantage and the positive promotion drive of different agencies to make BTP as an alternative investment hub in Central Luzon.

He said the setting up of the new water treatment plant in Morong, which is listed as the province’s six economic zone would encourage more local and foreign investors to come in the historic Bataan peninsula and finally solve the lack of potable water supply in the locality which relies mainly on deep wells, springs and rivers.

The state-owned Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and the Morong Power and Water Corporation (MPWC) recently forged an agreement for the latter to lease a 4,500 square meter lot in the BTP to put up a water treatment plant and supply potable water to Morong with estimated 30,000 residents and the Subic Water Sewerage System (SWSS).

The BTP, located a few kilometers from the Morong gate of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and the largest ecozone in the country, is estimated to draw more locators from nearby Asian countries.

The operation of the water facility would encourage small and medium enterprises to put up food conglomerates and operate other service outlets to attract tourists including retirement and health facilities.
