BALANGA CITY, Bataan – No less than Assistant Health Secretary and Region 3 Director Dr. Leonita P. Gorgolon, led the 5thCentral Luzon Excellence Awards for Health yesterday, February 9, 2017 at Royce Hotel and Casino, Clark, Pampanga.
Representatives from Bataan General Hospital (BGH) who attended the event were Dr. Glory V. Baltazar (Medical Center Chief), Dr. Darlene Zamora (Ob-Gyne Dept. Head), Dr. Jocelyn Bongco (Pediatrics Dept. Head), and Dr. Noel Laxamana (ER Dept. Head).
The doctors didn’t only go there to witness the awarding ceremony, they also bagged several awards such as the BGH being an Accredited Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital, an award for the Newborn Screening, and an award for Health Emergency Management.
According to Dr. Noel Laxamana, the DOH conducts awarding events like this because of the following reasons: to recognize the best practices of different hospitals and other health organizations, for compliance with the different DOH programs, and for the full implementation of the different DOH programs.
Laxamana added that in order to qualify for an award, there is a certain process that one hospital or health organization has to go through. A validation team from the DOH will be sent to visit a hospital so that they can check if that hospital has fulfilled the criteria for a certain category. And if it does, there is a chance for them to receive an award.
Among the awards that they have received, the one that they are really proud of is that the BGH is awarded as an accredited Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital because it is the only hospital in Bataan to receive this kind of accreditation.
In the end, Dr. Laxamana said that these awards, will result to more improved services that will later on lead to expansion and ultimately, more Bataeños will benefit from the hospital.
