Board Member Godofredo Galicia. Jr. is poised to focus on teen pregnancy which is fast-becoming alarming amid the pandemic.
Galicia said the issue on rising number of teenagers getting pregnant will be tackled by his committee once the vaccination roll out gets stabilized. He said, “Isa pong matagal nang sitwasyon yan hindi lang pang lokal bagkus ay pang buong bansa.”
To resolve the problem, Galicia said, there should be concerted efforts among DepEd, Department of Social Welfare and Development, provincial health office, among other government agencies.
Last month, President Duterte issued Executive Order No. 141 which adopts as national priority the implementation of measures to address reasons for the rising number of teenagers getting pregnant.
Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed that 183,967 live births among those ages 10 to 19 were recorded in 2018, while 180,916 were recorded from the same age group in 2019.
