DA distributes P 18.7 million farm equipment and implements

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The City government has obtained more than P18.7 million worth of farm machineries, post harvest facilities and other equipment from the Department of Agriculture (DA) which would promote agricultural growth and improve the quality of farm produce by farmers and fisher folks in this City.
Despite the rapid urbanization which activates the opening of commercial district in the province’s premier component city which is the government and educational center of the historic peninsula, the City government led by Mayor Anthony Francis S. Garcia and the Department of Agriculture (DA) have continued to implement the modernization scheme in the farming communities with equipment and facilities .
Ms. Nerissa B. Mateo, city agriculturist and concurrent environment and natural resources officer, said the City Mayor and the local agricultural development council have been evaluating the most appropriate equipment which would provide better harvest of principal crops to feed the growing population due to big demand for skilled and semi-skilled workers in the City.
Ms. Mateo has described the meaningful functions of the Department of Agriculture as government agency which is responsible for the promotion of agri-business and crop raising by providing framework, public investments, and support services needed for domestic and export-oriented entrepreneurs.
She reiterated the objective of Mayor Garcia of pursuing feasible and progressive agricultural program of applying modern technology which is basically focusing on hybrid seed, intensified irrigation, mechanization, credit intervention and post harvest facilities.
She said the exercise of a bottom-up self-reliant farm system approach that will underscore social justification , equity, productivity and sustainability in the use of agricultural resources.
