BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bataan is accelerating information campaign on Manila Bay rehabilitation program with the local officials and barangay captains of the towns forming part of the bay.

The stretch of the coasts of Hermosa, Orani, Samal, Abucay, Balanga, Pilar, Orion, Limay, and Mariveles is part of Manila Bay. Punong barangays and other local officials participate in the forums aiming to raise awareness in rehabilitating the Manila Bay.

Lectures on how Bataan affects Manila Bay, best practices on solid waste management, local shelter plan, good fishery practices, and habitat and resources rehabilitation are thoroughly discussed.

Mila Ramirez, DENR Bataan officer and focal person of Manila Bay Rehabilitation Project in the province, said DENR Bataan recently successively conducted the forums to punong barangays and other local officials of the towns of Pilar and Abucay. She said the forum was already conducted in Balanga City early this year.

She said added they are targeting to hold forums for the towns of Mariveles and Samal in the latter part of the year. She added the orientation in the remaining towns of Hermosa, Orani, Orion and Limay will be held next year.

DENR Bataan is the chair of the Technical Working Group (TWG) of Manila Bay Rehabilitation Project in the province. Other members of the TWG include PIA, DILG, DPWH, NHA, Bataan Peninsula State University, provincial government of Bataan, and concerned local government units.

Earlier this year, Ramirez said that they will go full blast on information and education campaign of the rehabilitation and clean-up of the Manila Bay. “The DENR Bataan is the chair of the Technical Working Group of the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Project Bataan. For 2015, we have been accelerating the conduct of IEC for the rehabilitation and clean-up of Manila Bay with the other mandamus agencies”, she pointed out.

The DENR Bataan through the leadership of Penro Raul Mamac is in full swing implementing its programs that include National Greening Program, Handog Titulo, and Manila Bay Rehabilitation Project, among others.
