The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 3 Regional Executive Director Engr. Paquito Moreno Jr. led the coastal cleanup in Bataan province of water lilies and trash.
Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Raul Mamac said the regional director personally joined the removal of hyacinths ànd other wastes in coastal Sitio Looc, Brgy. Banawang, Bagac, this week.
He said Moreno and other DENR Bataan personnel on Wednesday met Orion town Mayor Tonypep Raymundo regarding the coastal cleanup and visited the areas in town with water lilies in waterways.
Mamac said Engr. Noel Lacadin of Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office also joined the cleanup in Looc and the activities the next day in Orion. Community Environment and Natural Resources Office-Bagac personnel headed by OIC Cenro Merliza Torre joined the cleanup in Looc. Barangay Banawang officials and residents participated in the activity.
Businessman Ronnie Del Rosario, owner of La Jolla Resort in Bagac, lent his backhoes for free and were used to swifly remove water hyacints from Looc shorelines.
Mamac said Penro and Cenro Dinalupihan pesonnel with respective barangay officials and some residents also conducted cleanups in coastal areas of Hermosa,Orani, Samal, Abucay, Balanga City, Pilar, Orion, and Limay. Bad weather in the past week resulted to the surge of water lilies in the coastal areas of the province.
Mamac said continuous cleanup of coastal areas will be conducted to lessen or eradicate water hyacinths that affect mangrove areas and block waterways. He said the cleanup is also in line with the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Project.
