Dinalupihan bet wins the provincial poster making tilt

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – A fourteen year old lass from Jose Payumo, Jr. in Dinalupihan town, this province, won the first prize in the coveted Provincial Poster Making Contest held at the Crown Royale Hotel yesterday.

Shayne Plomeras, grade nine student and daughter of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Saudi Arabia was teary-eyed when she received the  cash prize of P5,000 and  a certificate of recognition  for  her award winning entry  from Director Nelin O. Cabahug of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Bataan provincial office, and Balanga City administrator Rodolfo de Mesa, chairman of the Board of Judges..

A special science class student, Plomeras who was emotionally excited about her latest achievement in the observance of Consumer Welfare Month with the theme “Consumer Protection in the Asean Economic Community”, is aspiring to become an architect someday.

One of the 9 girls out of the 30 participating students from private and public high schools in the province, the charming and petite  winner  explained  her extraordinary drawing skills was honed through the guidance of her parents which started when she was in grade one. This is her fourth award in the poster making category.

The prodding of her artistically–inclined parents who love to buy her drawing books and sketch pads is the major breakthrough in her eagerness to excel in arts, Plomera said.

Ms. Cabahug, DTI Bataan provincial director, said the regular poster making contest will enhance creativity and create awareness on consumer welfare and consumer rights among the youth. She added the provincial winner will compete in the regional level.

Raymar Borja of Don Pablo Roman High School in Pilar town won second place and P3,000 cash prize  while Esmer Boa of Limay High School  placed third plus P 2,000 cash.

Initially, the Board of Judges selected 10 posters from among the 30 entries. The criteria for judging are: relevance with the artwork – able to communicate clearly and effectively, creativity or originality of the artwork, visual impact and adherence to the contest rules.
