DINALUPIHAN, Bataan – This first-class town celebrated the feast of St. John the Baptist filled with dances and of course, with water.
Dinalupihan Mayor Gila Garcia and the rest of the local officials here led the occasion in honor of the town’s patron saint.
The scriptures said John the Baptist was an itinerant preacher and a major religious figure mentioned in the Canonical gospels and the Qur’an. He is described in the Gospel of Luke as a relative of Jesus who led a movement of baptism at the Jordan River.
Dinalupihan is the only land-locked town in the province and has been celebrating for years what they called as “tubig” festival, using big hoses of firetrucks in dumping water to a big number of cheering people along the streets.
Participants in revelry asked for more as firemen in firetrucks trained their hoses on them. Along the major roads, barangay folks seemed to have satisfied their “thirst” once they have doused water even on vehicles with closed windows.
