CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – Digitizing the university libraries….The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) III on November 19, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) that will enable the latter to digitize the library of its two satellite campuses through adoption of the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosks (STARBOOKS) technology. The signing was held at the Administration Building of the BPSU-Main Campus.
Not requiring an internet connection, the STARBOOKS is a user-friendly stand-alone kiosk which serves as a compendium of S&T information gathered from all over the world.
According to the Bataan Provincial S&T Director Rosalie V. Ona, STARBOOKS contains hundreds of thousands of digitized S&T resources such as journals, serial publications, reference materials, annual reports, theses and dissertations, and technical and project reports.
She added,“It also features videos from the different DOST agencies dubbed as “Tamang DOSTkarte Livelihood Videos” for aspiring entrepreneurs.”
BPSU President Gregorio J. Rodis expressed his gratefulness to DOST for this project during the signing of the MOA and he eyes its big impact on the university’s stakeholders especially the students in the Bagac and Abucay campuses where the STARBOOKS will be installed.
Digitizing the traditional library at BPSU-Bagac and Abucay campuses will help increase the number of their library users as these complement the limited resources available at the facilities.
BPSU is the third academic institution in Bataan to receive STARBOOKS. In 2014, DOST granted the said digital library to Dr. Victoria B. Roman Memorial High School in Brgy. Pantingan, Pilar and Pagalanggang National High School in Brgy. Pagalanggang, Dinalupihan.
The STARBOOKS is being provided to the university through the DOST III’s Grant-in-Aid Program which aims to harness the country’s S&T capabilities to spur and attain a sustainable growth and development through funding of relevant S&T undertakings. The project will be implemented in 2016.
