The new cornerstone of the DTI-DOST inclusive Filipinnovation and Entrepreneurship Roadmap is the establishment of the Regional Inclusive Innovation Center (RIIC), which serves as the key driver for economic transformation.
DTI Provincial Director Nelin Cabahug in the recent “DTI Kapihan” said that RIIC a program of USAID was first launched in the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao and Legaspi and now for their expansion sites, they’re targeting Region 3 in the areas of food processing, with provinces that need tie-up with state universities like our very own Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU).
Cabahug added that RIIC will give rise to collaboration towards commercialization of market-oriented research and technology that will have impact in the development of products that will increase regional competitiveness.
She added that DTI will act as the link between innovators and potential investors, who will launch a sort of Trade fair of Research and Technology or Exposition of Technology/Research Output and then invite businessmen, investors and even LGUs, as the main beneficiaries of said efforts.
This activity will cultivate the cross-sectoral synergy in the innovation ecosystem towards market-oriented research which when unlocked will create advantages to local businesses.
Cabahug said, she believes that there are many productive research and technologies made by students at the BPSU which probably are just in the “cabinet” waiting to be rediscovered and showcased that may lead to development and even regional competitiveness.
Director Cabahug added that initial talks with BPSU officials are underway in preparation for the launching of said big event.
