Four seaside and far-flung communities in Bataan were given unsinkable boats by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to help strengthen their disaster preparedness.

DOST Bataan Director Catalina Cruz said through DOST 3 Expanded Implementation of Community Empowerment Through Science and Technology program (eCEST), four unsinkable boats were given to Brgy. Quinawan, Bagac; Brgy. Biaan Mariveles; Brgy. Almacen, Hermosa; and Sitio Pulo, Brgy. Kabalutan, Orani.

She said the move is part of the agency’s efforts to strengthen the disaster rescue and relief capabilities of vulnerable communities in the province.

Cruz said the unsinkable watercraft will help improve the response to calamities of flood-prone and coastal communities.

DOST Bataan Science Research Specialist 2 Jerwin Vianzon said eCEST is a package of S & T interventions which aims to build progressive, empowered and resilient rural communities adding the program is targeting to empower the poorest and most depressed communities in the country.
