To further ensure the health and safety of Bataan residents towards the better and new normal, Gov. Abet Garcia signed Provincial Ordinance no. 15 s2020 entitled “An Ordinance Setting Standards for Regulating Toilets/Comfort Rooms in Hotspots and in Tourism-related Establishments”.
Penned by Board Member Romano “Popoy” Del Rosario, Chair of Committees on Tourism, Peace and Order and Public Safety, said Ordinance aims to protect the health of Bataeños thru the observance of proper hygiene and availability of basic health paraphernalia and to guarantee clean public restrooms particularly in this time that there is always the threat of COVID-19.
Basic necessities to promote minimum health standards such as toilet paper, soap, sanitizers, should now be available in all public comfort rooms especially in crowded places such as shopping malls, supermarkets, and wet markets, stand-alone public toilets on streets, squares, parks, tourism sites, common terminals, gasoline stations, community centers and places of worship.
In order to prevent further transmission, the ordinance stated that public toilets must have urinals with flush valve equipped with automatic flush device, washbasins, waste bins with foot pedal, sanitizers, sensor-automated soap dispensers which will lessen the possibility of contact to surfaces.
Building officials of tourism-related establishments and the Municipal/Provincial Tourism Office that conduct annual inspection should ensure compliance to said ordinance prior to issuance of building permit and certificate of compliance.
