Bataan Governor Albert Garcia expressed optimism on Monday that the Delta variant now seeping in some parts of the country would not spread like it did in India.
Garcia told local reporters that 14 cases of patients infected with Delta variant were detected by the provincial health office recently.
“Huwag na natin hayaan mangyari sa atin ang nangyari sa India,” he said.
“The provincial government had been doing all things possible to mitigate the spread of Delta variant in the province including the tightening of protocols on APOR (authorized persons out of residence,” the governor said.
He urged residents to have themselves inoculated at the various vaccination centers situated in all municipalities throughout the province.
There are now more than 100,000 people in Bataan who received vaccines of Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Sputnik V, Janzenn, and Moderna.
“I hope there should be no lockdown anymore because it will hurt the economy. Parallel po yan sa pagbabakuna. Hopefully, magbukas na muli ang ating ekonomiya,” Garcia said.
