Governor Abet sheds light on waste management project

“Wala naman po kaming gagawin na ikapapahamak ng ating bayan,” said Governor Abet Garcia in a public hearing held in Las Marianas last November 27 in connection to the proposed provincial integrated waste management facility to be built in Brgy. Capitangan, Abucay.

With proper waste management being one of the major concerns of investors, Gov. Abet enlightened everyone by discussing in details the opportunities that the project may bring, shedding light on the misconceptions surrounding the project and explaining to everyone the powers vested on the local government officials over these projects.

“Katulad ng mga nagtatayo sa atin ng mga negosyo, kapag naging perwisyo, ang may power po para ipasara yan ay yung mayor, hindi yung governor. Ito po yung nakasaad sa Local Government Code na kapag may nuisance o nakakaperwisyo, pwede ipasara ng mayor kaya ang risk nasa partner dahil sila ang mamumuhunan,” he added.

To be built through the Public-Private Partnership scheme, Basic Environmental Systems & Technologies Inc. Vice President Emy Aguinaldo presented the plan to the members of the different barangay councils, NGOs, department heads of the municipal government and other stakeholders. Also in attendance are the Sangguniang Bayan Members led by Vice Mayor Ruben Tagle.

Said plan is aligned to Republic Act No. 9003 known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 got the unanimous approval of the attendees.
