PILAR, Bataan – In its bid to adopt an effective solid waste management system in their municipality, Mayor Alice Pizarro led barangay captains and members of Solid Waste Management Board in visiting recently Lubao town and Barangay Maimpis, San Fernando City, in nearby Pampanga province for solid waste management benchmarking.
The lady mayor said she became aware of the effective solid waste management practices in the two areas during the Manila Bay rehab program forum of their town’s officials conducted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bataan.
“Having effective solid waste management system is important for us in helping in the rehabilitation of the Manila Bay area. We don’t want our wastes to go to the bay”, pointed out the lady mayor.
“The municipality of Pilar is in full support to the Manila Bay rehabilitation program in the province being spearheaded by the DENR Bataan”, Pizarro stressed.
The stretch of the coasts of Hermosa, Orani, Samal, Abucay, Balanga, Pilar, Orion, Limay, and Mariveles is part of Manila Bay.
DENR Bataan is accelerating information campaign on Manila Bay rehabilitation program with the local officials and barangay captains of the towns forming part of the bay, according to Mila Ramirez, DENR Bataan officer and focal person of Manila Bay Rehabilitation Project in the province.
She also lectured on how Bataan affects Manila Bay, best practices on solid waste management, local shelter plan, good fishery practices, and habitat and resources rehabilitation are discussed.
Through the leadership of Penro Raul Mamac, DENR Bataan is in full swing implementing its programs that include National Greening Program, Handog Titulo, and Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program, among others.
