School Year 2017-2018 marks the completion of the first Kindergarten to Grade 12 Curriculum or most popularly referred to as K to 12 Curriculum. All the preparations and planning at the beginning will now come to an end.
Different issues, comments, problems and queries were all addressed and taken into consideration by the Department of Education (DepEd) who spearheads the said program.
Despite all the loopholes in the implementation of the curriculum, the Department of Education continuously tries its best to provide the necessary tools and equipment needed by the students and teachers to ensure success of the said program.
Teachers were immersed in series of comprehensive trainings to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge on its proper implementation. In fact, DepEd is now preparing Grade 6 and Grade 12 teachers for the next batch of Mass Training of Teachers for the K to 12 Curriculum.
However, there are issues and concerns which still need to be addressed by DepEd. First is the lack of supplies such as the Learning Materials (LMs) and Teachers’ Guide (TG) which are very important to ensure that the teachers are on the right track and the pupils are well guided. Though it was promised that said materials, particularly in Grade 5, will be provided within the school year, no materials were distributed as of this moment for the said grade level.
Amid all the problems, praises and criticisms for the said K to 12 curriculum, one fact stands today, that K to 12 has been launched, whether perceived successfully or unsuccessfully, and is now about to end. Let us all hope that the goal of the Department of Education will be truly achieved with this new curriculum.
