But Cantil insisted that it was a legitimate operation launched against Tungia and other illegal gun holders. “Tinutulongan ko na nga sila, (apprehended suspects) ako pa ang inireklamo,” lamented Cantil.
Sr. Supt. Audie Atienza, who was called by Gov. Abet S. Garcia, to look into the complaints of illegal confiscation of guns by the CIDG agents led by Cantil in Bataan, said that he had come up with a confidential report addressed to PNP chief Purisima, detailing how the CIDG agents conducted their questionable seizure of guns from legitimate gun holders in Bataan.
The CIDG hierarchy in turn , directed Major Tampis to take over Bataan CIDG “to salvage” the tarnished image of the investigating agency of the PNP in Bataan.
Tampis is not new in Bataan since he had been a PO for two long years without “controversial records” during his stint.
A highly-respected in the community, Tampis said that he paid a courtesy call on Gov. Garcia right after assuming his top CIDG post, saying they had a very harmonious exchange of positive conversation with the governor on how to make Bataan more peaceful and orderly.
