ORANI, Bataan—The Orani Water District (OWD)  has celebrated its anniversary on Saturday with a run for a cause.

The water district staged a run-16 kilometers, 5 kilometers, and 3 kilometers-, raising P74,870.00 funds to be spent to plant 10,000 tibig trees in the 28 hectares in the upland Tala watershed area.

OWD General Manager Benny Andres said they attracted more runners and collected more cash donations this year.

He said 1, 624 runners participated in the run for a cause compared to last year’s 1, 024.

He said they have been doing the run for the last 14 years in celebration of their anniversary although the planting of trees in the watershed area was just three years ago.

He said they already planted 20,000 tibig trees for the past two years, and will plant another 10,000 this coming August.

He added tibig tree holds more water compared to other species.

He said that their reforestation effort of the Tala watershed area aims to preserve the aquifers under it, the source of potable water they distribute to businesses and households in Orani and nearby areas.

“We have to protect and preserve our source of water by reforesting watershed areas”, Andres stressed.
