The first state of the art cement processing plant and terminal port worth P 1 billion was inaugurated last Saturday, January 18 at the 1.9 hectare site located at the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB).
Eduardo Sahagun, Philcement president, and chief executive officer, explained the newly-opened plant and port is the first of its kind in the country and potentially one of the largest in the world with an initial capacity of 2 million tons of cement.
With highly automated equipment, the facility will allow Philcement to serve the growing demand for high quality cement for Filipino consumers in a very efficient manner up to the 50 percent requirements of the local market.
The inauguration and blessing which signals the commencement of the cement plant’s operations was attended by Engineer Emmanuel Pineda, chairman and administrator of Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB), PHINMA president Ramon del Rosario, Jr and other representatives of the national and local government offices.
A PHINMA subsidiary, Philcement will engage the host communities to be part of the production process by providing residents with livelihood opportunity.
Founded in 1956 after the acquisition of the Cebu Portland Cement plant in Bacnotan, La Union, PHINMA through the years took over the management of cement plants in Bulacan,Rizal and Davao-expanding its stake in the industry with quality cement under the Union Cement brand.
