Director Ronnie Domingo of Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) turned over information education campaign materials on African Swine Fever (ASF) prevention to the Province of Bataan through the Office of the Veterinary under Provincial Veterinarian, Dr. Alberto Venturina, this morning, July 31 at the Bulwagan ng Bayan, Capitol compound. Vice Governor Cris Garcia was also present during the turn over.
ASF prevention is a national program and Bataan was chosen to be the first local government unit to be a recipient of the materials.
African swine fever virus causes haemorrhagic fever with high mortality rates in domestic pigs; some isolates can cause death of animals as quickly as a week after infection. After turning over the campaign materials, Director Domingo together with Head of City Veterinary Office Billy Andrew Banzon; Dr. Venturina, and Animal Health and Welfare Officer Dr. Oscar Jhan Cabayan visited City of Balanga public market to distribute pamphlets and other printed materials as well as post tarpaulins in agricultural supply stores.
According to tDr. Venturina, a seminar will be held on August among backyard and commercial raisers to give additional information on ASF prevention.
Said seminar also aims to assure the public that their office is always ready to accommodate everyone’s concern about ASF and other related matters.
To date, there is still no reported ASF incident in our country that is why the Bureau of Animal Industry is very eager in spreading awareness about the prevention and control of the said virus.
