Hosted by the Local Government Unit of Orani, the Provincial Solid Waste Management Board held its joint 2nd and 3rd quarter meetings yesterday, July 30 at the Sangguniang Bayan Gallery Hall, attended by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and other representatives from the different local government units (LGU) in the province.
Tackled during the meeting are the status and updates on the compliance of component LGUs on Solid Waste Management including the DILG Memo. Circular No. 2019-9 directing all concerned LGUs to fulfill their roles and responsibilities pursuant to environment laws that contribute to the rehabilitation of Manila Bay. DENR – Environment Management Bureau (EMB) Region 3 discussed updates and status regarding concerned LGUs.
On the other hand, Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources (PG-ENRO) discussed the daily waste and residual waste generation in Bataan. The Provincial Government of Bataan (PGB) through the PG-ENRO started the “One Less Basura Project” which aims to reduce the quantity of residual solid wastes, especially single-use plastics, generated in the province.
The host municipality presented their best practices in line with the discussion and their 2019 Solid Waste Management Plan activities. Aside from the discussion, there were also site visits in the following areas in Barangay Mulawin and Barangay Paraiso for Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) & Composting, Orani Public Market for being the end-user of Eco bricks, and Orani Municipal MRF for waste processing and diversion.
