Police seaborne patrol in Mariveles town

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The municipality of Mariveles, the site of one the fastest growing economic zones in the country is opting to establish a police seaborne patrol team to secure the rich fishing grounds of Manila Bay and West Philippine Sea from illegal fishers .

Luis Gonzales, Mariveles municipal administrator, told print and broadcast reporters in a press conference last Friday, February 19 held at Crown Royale Hotel this City that Mayor Jesse Concepcion and the Sangguniang Bayan are readying a resolution for the creation of a seaborne team to stop the reported encroachments of large fishing boats from Metro Manila to the towns’ maritime waters to the disadvantage of small fishers.

Gonzales stressed that the local officials have been coordinating with the law-enforcement authorities to check the reported presence of unregistered fishing boats and strengthen the police intelligence network to avoid the entry of criminal syndicates in the community.

He said about 25,000 factory workers at the Authority of the Free Port Area of Bataan (AFAB) and the residents of the town have actively participated in the peace-keeping crusade and largely committed to uphold the vision of the local officials for environment friendly atmosphere in the country’s first export processing zone.

Gonzales commended the media for promoting the town of its feasible socio economic development plan and other worthy projects which would encourage local and foreign investments .

He added the sustainable development programs of Bataan governor Albert S. Garcia and second district Rep. Enrique T. Garcia, Jr. of providing excellent infrastructure and communication facilities, creation of productive economic zones with lucrative tax-exemption benefits, availability of highly-skilled workers and professionals, good governance and other advantageous opportunities to investors.
