POPCOM’s Virtual FOT highlights teenage pregnancy prevention

The Provincial Population Office of Bataan (Popcom) successfully held this year’s Festival of Talents (FOT) through online platforms amidst the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the theme, “Teenage Pregnancy and COVID-19: A Challenge to Our Youth and Future”, the annual festival was creatively pushed through to stress the crucial roles of the youth of Bataan in combating teenage pregnancy towards empowered and well-planned families most especially at this time of COVID-19 pandemic.

Headed by Ms. Rossana Verdida, POPCOM-OIC with support from DepEd Bataan through Mr. Romeo Layug (EPS Supervisor), the three categories of FOT namely: Jingle Making and Singing Contest, Poster-Making Contest, and Population Quiz (PopQuiz) were participated by talented students with a twist.

For Jingle Making and Singing Contest, participants showcased their music pieces via the Facebook page of the Provincial Population Office of Bataan wherein part of this year’s criteria included the number of likes and shares to further stress the influence of their talent and song’s message. Participants for the Poster-Making Contest also sent their masterpieces online. Pre-Judging activity of the two categories were conducted on November 9, 2020, at the 4th floor Conference Room of the Bunker.

Population Quiz (PopQuiz) followed by the Virtual Awarding were also executed online via Zoom application on November 16, 2020. The following were the winners of the 2020 Festival of Talents:

Jingle Writing and Singing Contest:
Champion: Jerlyn Shane Diego (Pablo Roman National High School)
1st Runner-up: Rein Marie Matawaran (Samal National High School- Annex)

Poster-Making Contest:
Champion: Aaron Santos (BLC Integrated School)
1st Runner-up: Kim Evangelista (Bagac National High School)

Population Quiz (PopQuiz):
Champion: Nicole Ashley Canindo (Bataan Heroes Memorial College)
1st Runner-up: Leona Laquinario (Hermosa National High School)
2nd Runner-up: Kurt Gabriel Lopez (Limay National High School)

Overall, the social media advertisements and posts regarding 2020 Festival of Talents have reached over 30,000 views and reacts and more than 400 shares.
