BALANGA City, Bataan – Ms. Marilyn Tigas, head of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), reported their commitments and mandates as they led in today’s flag-raising ceremony of the Provincial Government of Bataan (PGB) held at the Capitol Grounds, this City.
Mandated to provide social protection and promote the rights and welfare of the poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals, families and communities, the Office contributes to poverty alleviation and provide empowerment through social welfare and development policies, programs, projects and services implemented with or through local government units, non-government organizations, other government offices and other members of the civil society.
As part of its pledge, the office is committed in providing auxiliary services which include the provision of mobility and assistive devices to persons with disabilities (PWDs), the Philhealth Program, assistance in crisis situations, the Libreng Libing Program, educational assistance, and the Rice Subsidy Program.
In the 2020 Strategy Map, the PSWDO is under the Support Perspective wherein its part in the attainment of the province’s vision and mission is to improve the provincial government’s management and operations.
The office is also committed in the strengthening and sustaining of our people’s organization which include Bataan Federation of Senior Citizen Association of the Philippines, Samahan ng mga Taong May Kapansanan sa Bataan (SATAMAKABA) Community-Based Rehabilitation, Inc., Samahang Daycare Workers ng Bataan, and the Bagong Sigla ng Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina ng Bataan, Inc. (KALIPI).
PSWDO serves as secretariat for the Provincial Council for Women and Children (PCWC), Provincial Council on Disability Affairs (PCDA), BCEC, OSCA League of Bataam, PAC for 4Ps, and the Provincial Coordination and Monitoring Board.
“Ang ipinanganak nang mahirap at namatay din nang mahirap ay choice ng isang tao. We believe in the inherent worth and dignity of a person,” said PSWDO Head Tigas.
“All our committed programs and services in the attainment of our vision and mission focus on our clients for them to become self-reliant and empowered and to give them access to government and private programs and services. Once empowered, they will have the power to fight for their rights, the power to have positive decisions and to have an income, healthy lifestyle and education,” she added.
“Sa ating inclusive development, walang maiiwan, lahat kasali sa pagbabago kahit ano pa ang iyong kalagayan sa buhay,” she stressed.
The PSWDO also has programs for self and social enhancement, productivity skills development, community participation skills development and the resource mobilization.
For the next six months, the office is committed to enhance their partnership with other agencies particularly those involved in the implementation of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or the 4Ps.
As the current holder of the Model LGU in Implementing Programs and Services nationwide and as a three-term holder in Region III, PSWDO faces new challenges for the realization of its commitment in upholding a better, smarter, and faster delivery of social services to the marginalized sector.
