SI Bataan adopts Barangay West Calaguiman

CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – During the first year of Biennium 2014-2016, the Soroptimist International (SI) of Bataan conducted a series of activities to help women and girls “be their best”.

As an accredited Non Government Organization of the province, SI Bataan maintains a strong partnership with the provincial government of Bataan and actively participates in local government programs and projects for women empowerment such as the provincial celebration of women’s month and in the province wide celebration of Bataan Day.

Through its own initiative, SI Bataan also conducted the following series of activities for the years 2014-2015:

1. Public Search for SI Bataan’s nominees for Live Your Dream (LYD) Award. Through strong partnership with the Guidance Counselors and Coordinators Association of Bataan (GCCAB) and guidance counselors of the six (6) campuses of Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) the club was able to come up with ten (10) entries for the LYD Award. Three (3) of them who were nominated for the District judging win in the district judging and one (1) of the three (3) won on the regional judging.

2. Partnership with the PNP Women and Children Protection Desk. SI Bataan sponsored the Police Women who attended the PNP Women Summit this year, who were the club’s partner in advocating women’s rights and protection of children.

During the Women’s Month celebration of Bataan PNP Office they awarded the President of the Club and the Soroptimist International of Bataan a plaque of recognition for being a strong advocate of women’s rights and empowerment.

3. Supported the Dream It, Be It Program of SIA through programs and projects for girls

4. For this biennium, SI Bataan adopted Brgy. West Calaguiman, Samal, Bataan to become the specific venue for the club’s impact project and programs for women and girls under the Adopt a Barangay program.

– Consultation with the Barangay Council on the needed intervention for women and girls of the community;

– Hygiene Orientation and Kit Giving to twenty five (25) 4-6 years old girls of the community

– Feeding program for little girls of the community

– Orientation of RA 9262 (VAWC Law) and RA 9208 (Anti Trafficking Law) to women of the community;

– Screening of women in the barangay to be beneficiaries of a five (5) day- Livelihood Skills Training in Cosmetology in partnership with a foundation and the Provincial Government of Bataan.

– Series of activities are already lined up until the end of biennium 2014-2016. A regular consultation with the barangay council is also being conducted to identify the most needed and relevant intervention that our beneficiaries need.

– Impact project and programs in our adopted barangay are continuing activities that will last for a period of two years for the women and girls beneficiaries to improve their lives and for the programs to have a big impact and create a difference in their lives.
