14 centenarians receive cash gifts from DSWD

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – In accordance with RA 10868 or the Centenarian Act of 2016, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) RO III in partnership with the Provincial Government of Bataan through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), conducted the awarding of cash gifts to centenarians from all over the province this morning, May 29, 2017, at the Provincial Governor’s Office, Capitol Compound, this City.

Presided over by Mrs. Marilyn Tigas, PSWDO Head, the simple program opened with a prayer led by Ms. Zenaida Samson (OSCA Head-Balanga). Tigas then acknowledged the guests and explained the purpose of the event. Also present to give their messages to the audience especially to the centenarians were Gov. Abet Garcia, BM Jose Villapando Sr. (Chairman-Committee on Senior Citizens), Ms. Irene Crespo (DSWD Assistant Regional Director), and Ms. Lalaine De Leon (DSWD RO III-Division Chief, Policies & Planning).

Ms. Christina May Ferma (Provincial Focal Person for Senior Citizens) led the presentation of centenarians and awarding of the gifts. A total of 14 centenarians met the requirements for them to be given the cash gift. Four of the centenarians are already bedridden, so the DSWD team will visit them in their homes to award them the gifts; four are deceased already but there were representatives from his/her family to receive the gift, while six centenarians were able to make it to this event, receiving the gifts themselves.

In his welcome remarks, Gov. Abet Garcia emphasized the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle that will contribute to having a longer life span, which incidentally is embodied in the vision of the province.

After all has been awarded, the centenarians and their relatives expressed their gratitude to what they have received.
