BALANGA CITY, Bataan– Each of the twenty-one centenarians in the province will receive P100,000 cash incentives and recognition from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and local government authorities.
Ms. Marilyn C. Tigas, chief of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) here explained that centenarians from the eleven (11) towns and Balanga City who are Filipino citizens and reach 100 years old and above whether residing in the Philippines or abroad are entitled to benefits under Republic Act Number 10868, otherwise known as Centenarian Act of 2016.
Ms. Tigas stressed that based on the Act, a letter of felicitation signed by the President of the Philippines shall be given to the living centenarian in addition to a cash award of P 100,000 in recognition of his or her longevity from DSWD fund and a posthumous plaque of appreciation to the deceased centenarian.
Ms. Tigas added that the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has issued Memorandum Circular No.2016-160 dated November 3, 2016 on the policies and guidelines on the implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act No. 10868, encouraging local government units to conduct appropriate commemorative activities during the celebration of the National Respect for Centenarians Day, as part of the annual elderly Filipino week every first Sunday of October.
This occasion is considered as a national event and an avenue for honoring and giving awards and incentives to centenarians.
The Bataan Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office is working on the required documentations of the 21 recipients for the processing of cash incentives per centenarian led by Iluminada Mangawang of Barangay Camacho, Balanga City who was born on December 12,1910.
