New CIDG-Bataan chief named

CAMP TOLENTINO – The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-Bataan) based here has a new provincial officer.

   Chief Inspector Ruben Tampis recently replaced Chief Inspector Melchor Cantil as the agency’s new chief following a reported series of complaints filed against the latter and some of his men.

   Tampis also served as the operations chief and assistant regional chief of CIDG Central Luzon based in Camp Olivas, Pampanga.

Central Luzon Police Advocates Disaster Management

CAMP OLIVAS ­­­– As part of its continuing efforts to address natural disasters and calamities, the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) led by Chief Superintendent Raul D. Petrasanta, Central Luzon Police Director recently facilitated a disaster awareness seminar held at the PRO3 Multi-Purpose Hall.

          The half day seminar with a theme “Every day is not okay, not every day is okay”, was a pilot project of PCSupt. Petrasanta with the support of  an emergency management specialist which aims to promote “first steps” or proactive actions in mitigating risk and promoting safety for the police force in disaster responding.

          Hutch Regencia, managing director of EMS Emergency Management Specialist, was the guest lecturer for the seminar which was attended by 150 participants from Police Regional Office 3, city and provincial police offices, PNP Regional Training School 3, tri-media, Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, provincial PDRRMC’s from the 7 provinces of the region, LGU-Pampanga and LGU-San Fernando and security agencies.

Asia Pacific Drive Tourism Confab Set in Subic

 BALANGA CITY- The Asia Pacific Drive Tourism Conference and Exhibition is set to be held on January 30 – February 2 next year at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Dr. Mina Gabor, the event’s co-chairman said that the conference cum exhibition is intended to be an engaging event between the leaders of the private and public sectors on how innovations in road safety can spur growth of tourism and promote safe and pleasurable travel.

Gabor added that the pioneering event will showcase the latest innovations in the automobile industry, road safety, mobility, motorsports, travel and tourism from both local and international exhibitors and sellers. 

Bataan Provincial Board acts to decongest jails

BATAAN CAPITOL — The provincial board here has taken a step to decongest the province’s jails.

“Soon, we are hoping, that our jails here in the province will only have a smaller population of inmates especially in our district jail,” Provincial Board Member Rey Ibe told newsmen in a press briefing held on Wednesday afternoon at the Vice Governor’s office.

Ibe, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Chairman of Justice, Human Rights and Legal Matters; and Trade and Industry commitees, narrated that he is set to meet with all of the Bataan Regional Trial Courts (RTC) and Municipal Trial Courts (MTC) judges and fiscals to talk about the status of thousands of cases filed in courts and prosecutors’ offices here.

The capitol’s legal team, led by the chief legal consultant Atty. Emiliano Pomer, will assist Ibe in conducting the meeting with the provincial judiciary.

Bataan Legislators Push For Agri Businesses

BALANGA CITY — A member of the Bataan provincial board is planning to file a resolution requiring owners of idle lands in the province to plant vegetables or fruit bearing trees or be penalized if they failed to comply with the soon-to-be passed provincial ordinance.

Board Member Peping Villapando, who hails from Barangay Batangas Dos, Mariveles, said although Bataan is classified as an industrial province, thousands of hectares of lands here are still viable for developments in agriculture.

“You know, it is important to balance our development as a province. We also need to invest in the environment. Kahit marami nang pumapasok na investors dito para magtayo ng pabrika at magbigay ng maraming trabaho, sana ay huwag nating kalimutan ang kalikasan. Kung magtatanim tayo ng maraming gulay at prutas sa mga bakanteng lupa makakatulong pa tayo sa food security ng ating bansa,” Villapando said.

Mariveles to build seaborne patrol headquarters

 MARIVELES, BATAAN — The municipal government here is planning to build a multi-purpose building along the town’s coastline that will serve as the headquarters for their seaborne patrol and other sea related agencies.

Mayor Jesse Concepcion told the local press here that, recently, he had initial talks with Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) officials based in Bataan about this major development that will protect not just the municipality of Mariveles but its nearby areas along its long coastline within the vicinity of Manila Bay and the West Philippine Sea.

“Initially, it will be called ‘The Mariveles Bantay Dagat Seaborne Headquarters’ which will serve as our patrol boat yard and impounding area for illegal fishing offenders. It will also house the equipment and offices for our municipal risk reduction management council and our disaster rescue team,” Municipal Administrator Luis Gonzales said.

BMA FREEPORT- The Chief Information Officers Forum, Inc. (CIOF) together with the CIOF Foundation, Inc. and the Information and Communications Technology Office of the Department of Science and Technology (ICTO-DOST) conducted a “Cloud Computing Roadshow- Conference” at the Subic Bay Travelers Hotel at this Freeport recently.

The roadshow had a theme, “It’s More Fun in the Cloud”.

BALANGA CITY — A businessman and book author urged students here to take advantage of their skills in social media in applying for a job or starting their own businesses.

Paulo Tibig told his listeners, who were mostly college students, in the recently concluded 4th University Town Summit of the City Government of Balanga, that even at the comfort of their homes, they can use their cellular phones and online e-commerce to earn money like selling their products in social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Linked-In.

Tibig who authored the bestseller entrepreneurial book, “Strategies of a Champion Entrepreneur,” told the students: ‘’Dapat palaging may mindset ang mga kabataan ngayon na pagbutihin ang pag-aaral hindi lang para makapagtrabaho, kundi para makapagnegosyo rin.’’

Bataan Business Group joins 39th PHL Business Conference, Expo

MANILA — Hundreds of delegation from different chambers of commerce nationwide converged at the world famous Manila Hotel for the 39th Philippine Business Conference and Expo led by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).

Armanda Battad, president of the Bataan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (BACCII), led the Bataan delegation in the annual business event.

Bataan Bishop raises P.6-M for Bohol earthquake victims

BALANGA CITY — Donations for the victims of 7.2-magnitude Bohol earthquake given to the Diocese of Balanga reached P592,845.50, Bishop Ruperto Santos reported to newsmen here.

In a press statement, Santos said that the amount was sent and channeled through social action ministries of the Archdiocese of Cebu and the Dioceses of Tagbilaran and Talibon in Bohol.

The chief clergyman added that these “gracious help were accompanied by the prayers of hope and healing to all.”
