On the other hand, the Ministry of Communications and Information introduced their Vision and Mission which states, ” AN ENGAGED AND CONNECTED SINGAPORE” as their vision and ” WE CONNECT PEOPLE TO COMMUNITY, GOVERNMENT AND OPPORTUNITY” as their mission.
Mr. Ann Hee Kyet, explained that in connecting to the community, it must be inclusive and cohesive, a community that embraces learning and with people that are engaged and informed; while for the Government, it must deliver good services, a gov’t that engages society actively and communicate effectively, but Kyet added that it would not be complete without an opportunity, that is, there must be enough opportunity in the form of jobs, pathways to achieve aspirations and globally competitive information communications in media, design and cyber security industries.
All of these according to Kyet must be enabled by trustworthy infrastructures and technology, that is to design and build resilient infrastructure, secure Singapore from cyber threats and protect personal data of their people.
To achieve their mission, the officials said that they need to (1) pursue excellence, to live out the MCI’s core values, give their best in all they do and use public resources prudently; (2) develop strong partnership to create solutions with stakeholders and build relationship with advocates and influencers and (3) lead change, this is the realization of their mission according to the officials, that is to keep abreast of the latest research, adopt technology and embrace innovations and more importantly they need to think boldly and act decisively and communicate effectively.
The vision and mission are short and simple, yet the officials said that though there are many smart ideas, it must be focused in their one smart nation, that is harnessing technology to serve the needs of the people for improved quality of life, greater business opportunities to build stronger more connected communities.
