CAMP TOLENTINO, Bataan – A Bataan policewoman was among the awardees of the recently concluded Search for the Country’s Outstanding Police Officers Service (COPS), an award given annually by the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. together with the Rotary Club of New Manila East (RCNME) and the Philippine Savings Bank.

Senior Police Officer 1 (SPO1) Mhay Mayuyo-Rubio of Bataan Police Provincial Office (BPPO) based in this camp joined other Police Non-Commissioned awardees from Camarines Sur, Aklan, Agusan Del Norte, Zamboanga City and Saranggani Province.

A second-generation police officer, SPO1 Rubio advances her mission by building collaborative partnerships between the police, local government, civil society, and the community.

Strengthening police community relations is integral to the success of any police force. These programs and learning opportunities elevate a community’s quality of life and help deter citizens from choosing a life of crime.

Among the many police community relations initiatives that SPO1 Mayuyo-Rubio has overseen include the Bahay Pag-asa Reform Center and Balik Loob reintegration program for former drug peddlers and users; a designated tourist-oriented police force in Bataan; and the Bataan Industrial Peace and Concerns Office, which serves as a liaison between the police, business enterprises, and the community.

Now on its 14th year, COPS honors gallant men and women in the police force who are able to work with the community to prevent and solve crimes. All previous COPS awardees are now members of the COPS alumni organization named “Police Officers Responsible for Organizing, Transforming, Empowering Communities” otherwise known as PROTECT.

Engr. Manuel Gorospe of the Rotary Club of New manila East said that the COPS 2016 Awardees are examples that criminalities can be resolved by peaceful means through the active involvement of the community in assisting and working with the police force in order to ensure peace and order.
