Bishop thanks Gonzales clan for land donation


Balanga Diocese Bishop Ruperto Santos thanked on Wednesday former Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales, for donating hectares of land in Barangay Tala, Orani, Bataan for the site of Santuario Diocesano Dela Sagrada Familia.

The consecration ceremonies were held last Saturday for the second sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer and Casa del Clero on a 5.7 hectare mountainous land in Tala. “We entrust the whole province of Bataan to protection and guidance of Jesus whom as Bataenos acknowledge and accept Him as our Lord and King. We place Bataan with our head, Governor Abet, under the patronage and graces of Jesus,” Bishop Santos said.

The ceremonies were attended by local officials led by Bataan Gov. Abet Garcia, Vice Gov. Cris Garcia, Gonzales and family, former Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Chairman Felicito Payumo and municipal mayors led by Dinalupihan Mayor Gila Garcia.

In thanking Gonzales, the Bishop said: “We are very thankful and very appreciative for the goodness and generosity of former Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales and his family as they graciously donated the Santuario to the Diocese.

The Santuario is being developed to become the country’s premier pilgrimage destination. Next year, the said site will be the venue of annual youth pilgrimage.

“It is an unending grace to the Diocese and the gift of the Diocese to the Philippine church as she will celebrate her 500 years.
