BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is the authorized agency to release the official count in a bird census, and DENR Bataan is always supporting the yearly avian count in this city.
Penro Raul Mamac sent a contingent led by DENR provincial wild life officer Mila Ramirez in the bird census here on Saturday.
From four birdwatching sites Barangays Tortugas, Lote, Sibacan, and Puerto Rivas Ibaba, 9,544 waterbirds were counted.
Ramirez noted during the announcement of the official count that more attention should be given to information dissemination and protection of the birds’ habitat.
“Let us increase information dissemination and let more people know that migratory birds are very important. Let us also safeguard their habitat not just in the lowlands but in the upland forested areas as well”, she said.
Mamac earlier vowed to support all the environmental programs of Gov. Abet Garcia and Balanga Mayor Francis Garcia.
