BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Local government units (LGUs) who want to avail funds for farm-to-market road (FMR) projects need to share only 10 percent as counterpart to secure funds from the Department of Agriculture (DA). This was revealed by League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) -Bataan president Gila S. Garcia to her fellow mayors during the recent LMP meeting held inside the Plaza hotel this city.
Mayor Garcia said that securing funds for FMR projects can be easily availed of from DA provided the LGU has the capacity to share the required 10 percent counterpart. This means that if an FMR project needs P10 million for its complete implementation, an LGU will only share P1 million to avail of the said amount from DA.
The FMR projects, usually in the remote areas, are needed to accelerate the economic development of the towns and cities. Several sitios in far-flung areas in Bataan need these FMRs to enable the farmers residing in these areas to market their farm products.
