Mayor AJ orders stronger monitoring of cigarette shipment

The Municipal Mayor of this coastal town issued an executive order on Monday ordering a strict monitoring of cigarette shipment following reports of rampant smuggled cigarettes in the local market and variety stores in remote villages.

Mariveles Mayor Ace Jello Concepcion issued Executive Order No. 008 series 2026 to put a stop to the proliferation of smuggled tobacco products in his municipality.

The executive order states in part: “Vulnerable to smuggling cigarettes, we need stronger vigilance and close coordination with law enforcement agencies.”

It added, “The measures require reporting on seizures, enforcement action and case outcome to ensure accountability and transparency.”

In the past, Mariveles was known as a transshipment point of smuggled items including onions and cigarettes and even electronics items.
