Morong widens scope for 'pawikan' conservation program

The municipal government of Morong has launched its continuing effort to widen the scope of its “pawikan” (sea turtle) conservation program.

In its recent social media post, it said that Morong Mayor Leila G. Linao-Munoz visited the Damara Hatchery managed by its president, Edson Puno who had been into “pawikan” care project Pawikan sa Damara (Pasadas). In her statement, the Mayor said Morong will continue to demonstrate how dedicated the municipal government is in conserving the “pawikan” in this part of the world. “We should take care of pawikan not only during the pawikan festival celebration but every day,” said Mayor Munoz.

The petite town executive also visited the coastal village of Mabayo, where she met Punong Barangay Jerry Bascon and a group of pawikan conservation volunteers who vowed to protect the endangered marine species. It was discussed in that meeting that the first pawikan hatchery may soon rise in Barangay Mabayo. Mayor Leila said Morong town is big enough rich in natural resources that “we should treasure them, “and this is a favorable niche for pawikan.”
