BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Balanga City Mayor Joet Garcia and Vice Mayor Noel Valdecanas celebrated their birthdays with tree-planting and blood-letting activities.

Fondly referred to as “Mga Idol ng Bayan” by city employees, the two top executives led the planting of 14,000 mahogany seedlings in upland Barangay Dangcol, this city on Wednesday.

Aside from city employees, barangay officials, members of local police, BFP, Philippine Army, and volunteers joined in the tree planting activity. Nelia Castor, city environment and natural resources officer, said the tree planting last Wednesday was the third in a row in celebration of the natal days of the city executives.

Earlier in the week, the city government conducted blood-letting activity. Dr. Mariano Banzon, city health officer, said 42 bags of blood were collected from donors.

The city mayor’s mother Vicky Garcia, wife Isabela Garcia and their three sons joined the former on his special day. Well-wishers were treated with lunch at the city hall.

The city mayor and vice mayor celebrate their birthdays every November 12 and 19, respectively. The city government has been setting aside one day for the double celebration of their natal days.

The tandem of Garcia and Valdecanas has turned Balanga into a leading component city with award-winning practices in governance and exemplary delivery of public service to constituents.
