PILAR, Bataan – Want to enjoy more the beauty of historic Mt. Samat and its environs? Then, try riding either Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTV) or All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) adjacent to the firing range in this hallowed ground in Pilar, Bataan. The vehicles are easy to maneuver and expert guides are on hand to assist.

The off-road thrill project is considered the first and so far the only one in Central Luzon. Richard Salem, tour guide of the CMP Off-Road Center, said they presently have one UTV unit and five ATV units for rent at P1,500 and P1,000 per person, respectively, for 30- 45 minutes. He said more units will soon be available.

Pilar Mayor Alice Pizarro said the four-kilometer route is a simple trail for beginners where on top of the hill, the giant War Memorial Cross and the scenic Dunsulan Falls are clearly seen from a distance. On board the vehicles, greeneries of various species of trees, vines and plants and villages below meet the eye.

Pizarro said the project is privately-owned aimed at giving more tourism add-ons in Pilar, specifically in Mt. Samat. Around the area are the 500-meter zipline, firing range, tree-hopping adventure and the majestic Dunsulan Falls. “Simple trail for beginners muna ito but we will later lengthen the trail that professional riders will enjoy more,” the mayor added.

Pizarro said they got the idea of the off-road thrill after their visit in an area in Bicol near Mount Mayon, riding a UTV.
