Project Saysay creates meaningful impact in communities

Project Saysay is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD), two power generation facilities under AboitizPower, aimed at delivering meaningful and lasting impact in their host communities.

At the heart of Project Saysay is an employee-led outreach program that promotes volunteerism and social responsibility. Each month, GMEC and GNPD employees celebrating their birthdays choose to give back by volunteering their time and resources to community activities instead of holding traditional personal celebrations.

The project’s name, “Saysay,” is a Filipino word meaning “value,” underscoring its core objective of creating purposeful actions that benefit communities. One of the outreach activities under Project Saysay involves repurposing waste materials in Bataan, transforming discarded items into useful resources for communities.

This initiative not only supports environmental sustainability but also promotes creativity, responsibility, and community involvement. Through the “Waste to Material” program under Project Saysay, fifty women in Mariveles, Bataan have gained livelihood opportunities.

Trainers from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) guided the beneficiaries in transforming tarpaulins and plastic waste into practical household items and creative décor. The GMEC and GNPD teams also distributed toolkits—including scissors, glue guns, soldering irons, cutters, spray paint, cable ties, and recyclable materials—to help all 50 beneficiaries kickstart their ventures.
