“We act as a catalyst for gender mainstreaming, the authority on women’s concerns, and advocates for women’s empowerment, gender equity and equality,” said Ms. Vicky Garcia at the Provincial Women’s Commission’s Women’s Month Celebration yesterday.

The celebration began with a mass at St. Joseph Cathedral, followed by a motorcade around Balanga City which ended at Vista Mall Bataan for the program proper. Ms. Rossana Verdida, department head of Provincial Population Office, shared the rationale and the approval of the Provincial Ordinance C-1 on February 19, 2001 that led to the creation of PWC.

Reminiscing her 20 years of serving as the PWC’s chairperson, Ms. Vicky Garcia enumerated the programs and projects they spearheaded, including mass weddings, establishment of women’s group on every municipality in the province, education advocacy in schools, breast and cervical awareness, and free pap smear, to name a few.

“May you continue to lead the Provincial Women’s Commission in being the voice of women in the province of Bataan,” said Ms. Vicky Garcia as she turned over the Key of Responsibility to Ms. Isabel Garcia, the incoming PWC chairperson, after which she took an oath of responsibility led by Governor Joet Garcia and Vice Governor Cris Garcia. Zumba dancing, community singing, and a few games where winners took home exciting prizes added an element of fun to the event.

“Sa huli, nais ko pong itatak sa puso at isipan ng bawat isa sa atin na sa isang lipunang patas, wala pong limitasyon sa ating maaaring marating sa buhay,” Vice Governor Garcia said in her message.
