Bataan 1st District Rep. Tony Roman showcased his flagship reading program “Cool Iskool” to officials of The Asia Foundation, highlighting efforts to improve literacy and strengthen education reforms in the province.
Rep. Roman presented to Asia Foundation President Laurel Miller and Country Representative Sam Chittick the program’s gains in boosting reading skills among elementary learners in Bataan’s 1st District.
They also discussed improving foundational learning and increasing the role of Local Government Units (LGUs) in education in line with the recommendations of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2),
Roman met with students, teachers, and parents of Tomas Pinpin Memorial Elementary School, who gave positive feedback on the Cool Iskool program. Results showed a decline in the number of struggling readers, while the number of grade-level readers more than doubled.
The roundtable discussion with stakeholders backed the expansion of Cool Iskool and stronger LGU involvement to sustain education gains.
