2 OFWs negative of MERS-CoV

CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – A top official of the Bataan Provincial Health Office (PHO) has confirmed that the two overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who were on the same flight with a nurse who came home from Saudi Arabia and tested positive of the highly contagious Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona virus (MERS-CoV), tested negative of the disease, known as an atypical pneumonia because it is not caused by the usual bacteria or viruses. It causes high fever, cough, and severe shortness of breath. The infection is thought to be spread by close contact with an infected person.

“Nagnegativo naman sa test ang dalawang taga-Bataan na kasakay ng nars sa Saudia Flight 860 na positibo sa MERS-CoV,” pointed out Dr. Rosanna Buccahan, Head of the Bataan PHO in a statement aired over Poweradio 104.5 FM.

According to Dr. Buccahan, of the two persons who underwent the clinical test, one is from this City, while the other one is from Dinalupihan but is now residing in nearby Lubao, Pampanga.
