ORANI, Bataan – Bataan 1st District Representative Geraldine Roman is currently pushing for the establishment of Cancer Treatment Centers nationwide.
Roman’s bill (House Bill 268) aims to manage the psychosocial and rehabilitation needs of cancer patients and their families and provide programs that include assistance to cancer survivors.
Roman said citing published reports that almost 300,000 per year or 800 Filipinos per day or 33 per hour, die of cancer. More than 98,200 each year were diagnosed to have cancer. The common type of cancer for Filipino males are liver cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and stomach cancer while for females, the most common are breast cancer, cervix cancer, lung cancer, and ovarian cancer.
The lady lawmaker’s bill also seeks to establish the National Cancer Management Program.
“This important piece of would-be legislation does not focus on cancer treatment alone but also on scientific research and cancer management as well. The objectives of my bill are to promote, encourage, engage, and assist in scientific research on matters related to cancer,” Roman said on her Instagram post.
She also said that the establishment of the cancer treatment centers nationwide will result to reduced number of cancer cases in the country thru proper education and awareness programs.
“Cancer patients from different income levels will now have equal chance to avail cancer-related services and facilities as there will now be a Cancer Treatment Center in every region,” Roman said.
