Payumo wants to leave a legacy in education

DINALUPIHAN, Bataan – Barely four years in existence and with more than a thousand students, the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) in this town recently inaugurated a Technical Vocational Education building in partnership with TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority), the government agency tasked to manage and supervise technical education and skills development in the country.

TESDA Regional Director Dante Navarro with Bataan TESDA Prov’l. Director Virginia Bondoc graced the ribbon-cutting along with UNC Vice President, Atty. Ding Pascual and Mr. Fer Manalili, the University Administrator.

Former SBMA Chairman Felecito “Tong” Payumo, and president of said university in his message said that they offer the technical vocational education courses in partnership with TESDA for those youth who could not pursue college education due to inadequate resources but are interested to learn different skills that will help them find a job after graduation.

Payumo added that founding the University of Nueva Caceres is for him more of a mission, a passion rather than a business because he wants to leave a legacy in education that even when he’s already gone, the legacy of giving knowledge and helping the youth in pursuit of education will live on.

Besides, according to him, the newly offered TechVoc education courses complement their academic courses which have expanded to BS Agriculture, BS Accounting in Information System, BS Industrial Engineering, BS Entrepreneurship and AB Communication.

UNC co-founder, Atty. Ding Pascual, said that offering tehnical-vocational courses coincides with Pres. Duterte’s Build, Build, Build Program, because if they have skills in welding, pipe pitting and others, they will definitely find a job in the different infrastructure projects while the skills in culinary arts, housekeeping, bar tending and others are the ones that are in demand in hotels and restaurants. Pascual even added that all they need to do is to be the best in whatever skills they will learn to be globally competitive.
