Rep. Garcia wants SGLG award institutionalized

ORANI, Bataan – Congressman Jose Enrique Garcia III of Bataan’s Second District disclosed here on Monday that he had filed a bill institutionalizing the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award to Barangay level.
Garcia made the announcement during the first ever awarding of SGLG certificates to six villages in Orani town where he cited the important role played by barangay officials in community development.
“Lalong hindi biro ang dumaan sa validation,” he said. Joet reminds barangay officials how his then father Congressman Enrique T. Garcia manifested his love for barangay captains throughout the province.

He said his bill appropriating budget thereof shall be included in the General Appropriation of the national government to institutionalize the SGLG through the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
“Itong panukala natin ay nasa office na ni President Duterte,” Garcia explained. (This bill is now with the office of President Duterte.)
The bill provides that the DILG, as lead agency, should conduct assessment using 10 criteria which a village should strictly comply with. “About P1 billion had been earmarked for the DILG to implement the program but rather not put an amount because we may need more than that,” said Garcia.
