Hermosa sanitary landfill to be replicated in Cebu

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Hermosa Sanitary Landfill being managed by Econest Waste Management Corp. with Atty. Beulah Coeli Fiel as president, the only accredited sanitary landfill in Bataan by the DENR, was recently visited by newly-elected Governor of Cebu City, Congresswoman Gwendolyn Garcia, accompanied by Congresswoman Geraldine Roman of the 1st district of Bataan.
Impressed by the facility with its minimal odor and presence of flies, which according to Atty Fiel, is the result of their compliance to DENR standards with regards to sanitary landfill, as well as the cooperation of the community in proper waste segregation at the household level, Garcia said that she hopes to replicate the model her province, Cebu as part of her advocacy in the protection of the environment through proper waste management.
They also visited Econest’s upcycling facility, where waste is turned into useful products such as bags, ornaments, key holders, bracelets, pencil cases by the community members composed of senior citizens, out of school youths, parents, solo parents. This provide them livelihood, making them more productive citizens.
Truly impressed by the livelihood project that Econest provides to Hermosenos, Congresswoman Roman handed over one hundred thousand pesos in cash to Econest President, Atty Beulah Coeli Fiel to purchase additional sewing machines so that more people would benefit from the project.
