BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The request of Vice Governor Cristina M. Garcia, got a unanimous nod from the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan during last Monday’s session, for the additional scholarship assistance of P5,000 for the poor but deserving students under the Iskolar ng Bataan program starting 2018 onwards.
Vice Governor Cris Garcia, who is now in Italy together with Congressman Joet Garcia, in her letter request explained that the scholarship has helped a lot of the students in their education through the grant of cash benefit to support them in their studies especially the less privileged but deserving students. Due to the increases in tuition fees, miscellaneous fees, cost of books alongside the high cost of living, there is a need for additional financial assistance under the program.
To rationalize the administration and implementation of the additional scholarship assistance of 5 thousand pesos under the Iskolar ng Bataan program, it was agreed during the Iskolar ng Bataan committee meeting last January 2018, that they will ensure that grantees are really deserving based on existing criteria; that there must be a systematic selection of deserving students through government offices connected with social services and to ascertain the Iskolar ng Bataan additional scholarship assistance of P5,000 is properly granted and evaluated properly.
Board Member Jovy Banzon, temporary presiding officer, in an interview, said that the province is initially offering said assistance to only 200 deserving students for the moment, also to be screened by DSWD Region III.
