MARIVELES, Bataan – The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) is putting up FAB Central Business District in Sitio Acapulco, host to more than 200 informal settlers who had been in the area for years now.
Engr. Emmanuel D. Pineda, AFAB chairman and administrator, said the 12.5 hectare land will be leveled through the effort of Bataan Gov. Abet Garcia who already earmarked budget for the project.
To be put up in the proposed FAB central business district and financial center are seaport and fisherman’s hub, transportation hub, mixed-used commercial/retail strip mall, a public market, maritime industry and training center, and cruise ship terminal.
Pineda said expansion of the development of the whole Camaya Coast area has been approved this year, and said development “is expected to bring upon new opportunities for the province of Bataan and the FAB.”
“We are the only free port zone in the Manila Bay area which should be a huge strength, however, a weakness at the moment as FAB is only accessible via land, and everyone knows how far we are from Manila,” he observed.
The AFAB therefore should focus on better transportation option which is one of its priorities, Pineda said.
