BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Provincial Government of Bataan, through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, headed by Mrs. Imelda Inieto launched yesterday, June 6 the Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force, at the Lou-Is Resort & Restaurant, this City.

Municipal officials, MAD, coastguard, FARMC, PNP, bantay-dagat, and other stakeholders attended the said event.

Governor Abet Garcia, in his message, stressed the importance of reactivating the Task Force, because, “if we will not stop illegal fishing, there will come a time that our environment and marine ecology will be completely destroyed, that our fishes and other sea products will not be sustainable for our people”.

PNP Assistant Provincial Director for Admin, Col. Bait on his part, mentioned the sad state of our fishing world today, wherein almost 80% of our fisheries in the different parts of the world are fully exploited, depleted and that the serious problem is that we are losing the fishes and other marine species as well as the entire ecosystem.

Mrs. Inieto emphasized that the very reason in reactivating the Task Force is for all the stakeholders to work hand in hand, to ensure a sustainable future for our seas and our people, that we are combating illegal, unregulated and unreported illegal fishing in the coastal areas of the province.

Governor Garcia directed PNP Provincial Director, Sr Supt Benjie Silo as the Vice Chairman of the TaskForce, to device a system that will ensure the prevention of illegal fishing, enforcement of laws and prosecution of violators, maximizing the province’s helicopter, MBDA Command Center, radio communications, our dedicated bantay dagat, FARMC members, PNP, coastguard and other concerned agencies to ensure food security for the people.

The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement, served as the highlight of the event led by Mrs. Imelda Inieto, Mr. Danilo Abrera, Chief of Fisheries Division, Dr. Nelson Bien – ARD, FARMC head – Mr. Roberto Malibiran, Col. Bait of the PNP, Mayor Liberato Santiago of Abucay, coastguard, and of course, Governor Abet Garcia of the province of Bataan.
